This week, the Campus Helsingborg International Student Career Programme hosted its final event of the semester, providing international students with tips and strategies for entering the Swedish job market through internships. The session, held at Mindpark, began with a lecture by Peter Mayerhofer, Client Relationship Manager at Jobbsprånget, a non-profit organisation that connects international professionals with Swedish employers. "In Sweden, it typically takes between 5 and 10 years for a foreign-born academic to secure a job", Mayerhofer explained. He emphasised that the internships offered by his organisation provide a crucial opportunity to gain work experience, build a professional network, and obtain references that can support future job applications. Additionally, two interns from the programme, Rini Nair and Maria Teresa Gabriel, both from India, shared their personal experiences and insights from their career journeys in Sweden.
Other events hosted this semester focused on topics such as how to find a job, Swedish corporate culture, and insights into the Swedish and European job markets. The programme also included visits to two global companies headquartered in Helsingborg: Nederman and Ikea IT. "These experiences definitely equipped me with a stronger understanding of the Swedish job market and how to navigate it more confidently", says Laman Magsudlu, a first-year Strategic Communication student from Azerbaijan.
After an inspiring and intense spring semester, the Career Programme will take a well-deserved summer break to recharge and prepare new activities for the autumn. The autumn semester will kick off on September 23 with an event featuring a guest lecture by Elin Perttu - a Lund University alumna and behavioural scientist who works with change management, transition, and leadership. The event will also include a panel discussion with international alumni from Campus Helsingborg who are currently working in Sweden.
