IKO PhD seminar - Eveliina Hytönen
Eveliina Hytönen, a PhD student in the Corporate Communication unit at the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics. Alongside my doctoral studies, I work full-time as a Senior Lecturer at Laurea University of Applied Sciences, where I teach in the degree programmes of Safety, Security, and Risk Management. Over the past six years, a significant part of my work as a Senior Lecturer has involved working as a project manager and researcher in EU-funded Horizon projects focusing on critical infrastructure, business continuity management, resilience, crisis communication, and cybersecurity.
My research focuses on organizational crisis readiness and crisis communication. I approach crisis readiness as a proactive and multidimensional capability that combines psychological and operational preparedness. My perspective emphasizes trust, psychological safety, stakeholder engagement, effective communication, and the role of organizational structures, leadership, and continuous learning. I view crisis readiness as a dynamic and evolving capability that strengthens an organization’s ability to anticipate, respond to, and recover from crises. In my research articles, I have examined the differentiating and interconnecting elements of preparedness, readiness, and resilience, as well as media framing of preparedness and readiness in the context of a cyber crisis. My next study will explore adaptive and emotional leadership as an element of crisis readiness through Finnish crisis managers’ narratives on managing crisis communication in uncertain and evolving cyber crises.
